NY Medical Cannabis Program Eligibility Expansion

Great news! The NY State Office of Cannabis Management (OCM) launched a new certification and registration system for New York’s medical marijuana program, expanding eligibility for a lot more patients who can benefit from medical cannabis.

The most significant change is that a patient can now be certified by a practitioner for any condition that the practitioner believes can be treated with medical cannabis! This includes diagnoses such as pain, anxiety, insomnia, and decreased appetite. This practitioner discretion in certifying patients was granted with the passage of the Marijuana Regulation and Taxation Act (MRTA).

Other recent actions taken by the OCM include: Allowing the sale of whole flower medical cannabis products and increasing the amount of approved medical cannabis that may be dispensed to a certified patient or designated caregiver from a thirty (30) day supply to a sixty (60) day supply. There are also plans to pass regulations allowing medical card holders to grow their own marijuana in their homes.
